FAMILY VALUES AND TRADITIONS OF THE TITULAR ETHNIC GROUPS

OF SOUTHERN SIBERIA

Troshkina Irina Nikolaevna – Candidate of Sciences in Philosophy, Head of the Department of Economics and Sociology, Khakass Research Institute of Language, Literature, and History (Abakan, Russia). ORCID: 0000-0002-1650-0590. E-mail: i.troschkina2012@yandex.ru.

According to the results of surveys conducted in 2022–2023, the titular ethnic groups of Southern Siberia (Altaians, Tuvins, and Khakass) have a combination of collectivist and individualist family attitudes. The values considered in the areas of marriage-parenthood-kinship and values-goals-values-means, as well as the ethnocultural foundation, reflect changes in the areas of marriage-parenthood-kinship, with the dominance of the importance of marriage. Ethnic features have been identified: the Tuvan people are focused on equality and large families, the Altai people demonstrate a conservative model, and the Khakass people combine the value of children with care for the older generation. The most stable traditions are related to the reproductive cycle and intergenerational connections. The main problem remains the gap between declared values and actual practices, while the core of the tradition – the cult of ancestors and the reverence of elders, and the importance of children – remains, especially in rural areas.
